North Dakota Real Estate Salesperson License Requirements

A North Dakota Real Estate Affiliate Salesperson License is required of individuals who want to be active real estate agents. For the purposes of the License Professor, salesperson is similar to sales agents in other states. Purchasing the sales agent package and selecting North Dakota will provide you with national questions as well as North Dakota-specific salesperson questions.

Minimum Requirements to Apply for the Salesperson License

  • To receive a license, you must be 18 years of age or older, graduated high school, complete 45 hours of pre-license education, have an errors and omissions insurance policy. You will also need to pay all applicable fees, have your fingerprints electronically taken, and provide all required documentation.
  • Education: Salesperson candidates must complete forty-five (45) hours of real estate education in real estate principles/fundamentals before they take the examination, from an accreddited real estate school in North Dakota. Proof that the education described above has been completed will be forwarded by the school where the education was completed to AMP. You may not register for the examination until the school has provided that information to  AMP. The school will also provide you a certificate or letter of course completion that you must submit to ND Real Estate Commission with your application for licensure. Depending on the approved school, online real estate courses may be an option. You can view all of the approved North Dakota real estate courses here. Another 15 hours of post-license education must also be certified by the salesperson's broker within 1 year of being intially licensed.
  • Residence: License applicants must provide Proof of Legal Presence in U.S. If not a North Dakota resident, you can still apply for a reciproical license or as a nonresident candidate. The ND Real Estate Commission has reciprocity agreements with Georgia, Iowa, and Minnesota, and if you hold an active salesperson or broker license in one of these three states the licensing examination is waived. You will still need to pay applicable application fees and have errors and omissions insurance. Nonresident candidates still need to pass the state portion of the North Dakota salesperson examination.
  • Honesty & Integrity: License applicants must be honest, truthful, financially safe, and deal in good faith. Conviction of a crime may result in the denial of a license. The failure to reveal a criminal conviction on an original license application may also result in the denial of a license. North Dakota Real Estate Broker License Requirements

A North Dakota Real Estate Broker License is required of individuals who want to employ salespersons under their supervision. A license may be obtained by broker candidates that have been ACTIVELY ENGAGED (full time real estate salesperson) or compariable experience. Purchasing the broker package and selecting North Dakota will provide you with national exam prep questions as well as North Dakota-specific broker practice questions.

Minimum Requirements to Apply for the Broker License

  • To apply for a license, you must have an active license, completed sixty (60) hours of pre-license broker education, conduct a criminal background check, and have an errors and omissions insurance policy. You will also need to pay all applicable fees, have your fingerprints electronically taken if not already on file, and provide all required documentation.
  • Experience: Broker candidates must have been held an active real estate license for the past 2 years to apply for a North Dakota broker license. Depending on the approved school, online real estate courses may be an option. You can view all of the approved North Dakota real estate courses here
  • Education: Before applying for a broker's license, you must complete the Commission-approved 60-hour broker pre-licensing education course. These are different than continuing education courses. Alternative courses of study that are very similar to the specific pre-licnsing courses may be able to satsify the education requirement.
  • Residence: License applicants must provide Proof of Legal Presence in U.S. If not a North Dakota resident, you can still apply for a reciproical license or as a nonresident candidate.
