Individuals who perform acts of real estate services in New York must be licensed by the Real Estate Commission. A salesperson license gives you the ability to work in the office of a real estate broker as an employee or independent contractor. For the purposes of the License Professor, a salesperson is similar to sales agents in other states. Purchasing the sales agent package and selecting New York will provide you with national questions as well as New York-specific salesperson questions.

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • 75 Hours of additional pre-licensing instruction from a school and instructor approved by the Board.
  • Pass the New York Real Estate Examination.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

A New York Real Estate Broker License is required of individuals who want to who perform acts of real estate services in New York. A broker license would allow you to operate your own real estate business or act as a broker for a corporation or partnership.   • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • 120 Hours of additional pre-licensing instruction from a school and instructor approved by the Board.
  • Pass the New York Real Estate Examination.
  • Must be 20 years of age or older.
  • Must have at least two years of experience as a licensed real estate salesperson or at least three years of experience in the general real estate field, or a combination of the both.

The salesperson exam contains 75 questions. You must correctly answer at least 53 questions to pass.

The broker exam contains 100 questions. You must correctly answer at least 70 questions to pass.

Just because you have a criminal record, it does not mean that you will be prevented from receiving your license. It is always best to provide details on your application. If you are unsure, you can always call the commission to clarify what type of convictions are allowed, and which are not.

You are given a total of 1.5 hours for the salesperson exam (90 minutes).

You are given a total of 2.5 hours for the broker exam (150 minutes).
