Individuals who perform acts of real estate services in New Mexico must be licensed by the Real Estate Commission. An associate broker license gives you the ability to work in the office of a real estate broker as an employee or independent contractor. For the purposes of the License Professor, an associate broker is similar to sales agents in other states. Purchasing the sales agent package and selecting New Mexico will provide you with national questions as well as New Mexico-specific associate broker questions.

  • You must be at least 18 years of age to get a license.
  • Be a legal resident of the United States.
  • If currently or previously licensed in another state, submit a certified license certificate or certified license history.
  • Candidates for the real estate broker's examination must document completion of 90 credit hours of commission approved real estate pre-licensing courses consisting of one 30 credit-hour course each in Real Estate Principles and Practice, Real Estate Law, and Broker Basics prior to taking the examination. A written course waiver from the Commission Education Director can also serve to make this requirement.

A New Mexico Real Estate Broker License is required of individuals who want to who perform acts of real estate services in New Mexico. A broker license would allow you to operate your own real estate business or act as a broker for a corporation or partnership.   • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be a legal resident of the United States.
  • If currently or previously licensed in another state, submit a certified license history.
  • Have met one of the following requirements:
    • Shall have been actively engaged in real estate business as an associate broker for at least two of the last five years immediately prior to making application for a New Mexico qualifying broker's license, shall document completion of 120 hours of commission approved pre-licensing courses, including one 30 credit-hour course each in Real Estate Principles and Practice, Real Estate Law, Broker Basics, and a Brokerage Office Administration course, and shall have passed the Broker's examination.
    • Individuals with current licenses who can document that they were New Mexico qualifying brokers on or before December 31, 2005 are not subject to the requirements in paragraph D (1) above and may regain qualifying broker status by filing a Trade Name Registration Form (found at the “Forms” link of the New Mexico Real Estate Commission web site) and paying the $20 trade name registration fee to the Commission; or
    • Individuals who automatically became associate brokers on January 1, 2006 pursuant to 16.61.31.8(D) shall have been actively engaged in the real estate business as an associate broker for at least two of the last five years immediately prior to making application for a New Mexico qualifying broker's license, shall document completion of a 30-hour Brokerage Office Administration course designated by the commission, and shall pass a real estate broker's examination approved by the commission.

The associate broker exam contains 75 national questions (80 points) and 50 state-specific questions. You must correctly answer at least 60 of the national questions and 38 of the state-specific questions to pass.

The broker exam contains 80 national multiple questions and 50 state multiple choice questions. The exam is graded on the basis of difficulty (out of 0-100). You must get a scaled score of at least 75% to pass. This means that more difficult questions are scaled to be worth more than easier questions.

Just because you have a criminal record, it does not mean that you will be prevented from receiving your license. It is always best to provide details on your application. If you are unsure, you can always call the commission to clarify what type of convictions are allowed, and which are not.

You are given a total of 3 hours for the associate broker exam. You are are allowed 120 minutes (2 hours) for the national portion and 60 minutes (1 hour) for the state portion, for a total of 180 minutes (3 hours).
