Individuals who perform acts of real estate services in Maine must be licensed by the Real Estate Commission. For the purposes of the License Professor, a salesperson is similar to sales agents in other states.   • Have obtained a high school diploma or equivalency certificate (GED).
  • Complete criminal records check.
  • Pass the real estate salesperson licensing examination with a minimum final grade of 75%.
  • Complete the license application.

An Maine Real Estate Broker License is required of individuals who want to employ salespersons under their supervision. A license may be obtained by broker candidates that have an active Maine license that they have used full time for two out of the previous five years. Purchasing our broker package and selecting Maine will provide you with national exam prep questions as well as Maine-specific broker practice questions.

  • Complete the license application.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have obtained a high school diploma or equivalency certificate (GED).
  • Complete two years practice as an actively licensed sales agent.
  • Complete the 60-hour Associate Broker Course (plus Documented Field Experience Form) with a minimum final grade of 75%.
  • Pass the Sales Agent examination administered by Pearson VUE (if this examination was not passed prior to Sales Agent licensure).
  • Furnish a resume of full-time experience as a licensed associate broker for the one year (12 months) immediately preceding the date of application for a broker license.
  • Complete one year of practice as a licensed sales agent

    Furnish transcript(s) showing completion of 2 years (60 credit hours) in a business degree program, 9 credits of which must be for successful completion of the Sales Agent Course, the Associate Broker Course, and the Designated Broker Course.

The salesperson exam contains 80 national multiple questions and 40 state multiple choice questions. The exam is graded on the basis of difficulty (out of 0-100). You must get a scaled score of at least 75% to pass. This means that more difficult questions are scaled to be worth more than easier questions.

Just because you have a criminal record, it does not mean that you will be prevented from receiving your license. It is always best to provide details on your application. If you are unsure, you can always call the commission to clarify what type of convictions are allowed, and which are not.

You are given a total of 4 hours for the salesperson exam. This means you have a total of 240 minutes to complete the real estate license exam.
