Individuals who perform acts of real estate services in New Jersey must be licensed by the Real Estate Commission. For the purposes of the License Professor, a salesperson is similar to sales agents in other states. Purchasing the sales agent package and selecting New Jersey will provide you with national questions as well as New Jersey-specific salesperson questions.

  • Basic: To apply for a license, you must be 18 years of age or older, have a high school education or equivalency, and complete 75 hours of pre-license educations. You will also need to pay all applicable fees, have your fingerprints electronically taken, and provide all required documentation.
  • Education: Salesperson candidates must complete seventy-five (75) hours of real estate education in real estate principles/fundamentals from an approved real estate school in New Jersey. The courses are not currently available on-demand, but may be available in real-time as video-conference. If you are a disabled United States Veteran and a citizen of New Jersey, some of the education requirements may be waived.
  • Residence: License applicants must provide Proof of Legal Presence in U.S. New Jersey does not have a specific reciprocity agreement with other states.
  • Honesty: License applicants must be honest and truthful. Conviction of a crime may result in the denial of a license. The failure to reveal a criminal conviction on an original license application may also result in the denial of a license. You may want to consider a request for a fitness determination if you are unsure whether you will meet the qualifications from the New Jersey Real Estate Commission.
  • Fees: The New Jersey application fee is $160 and the New Jersey exam fee is $45. If you are a disabled United States Veteran and a citizen of New Jersey, it may be possible to secure waivers for a portion of the fees.

A New Jersey Real Estate Broker License is required of individuals who want to employ salespersons under their supervision. A license may be obtained by broker candidates that have an active New Jersey license that they have used full time for the previous three years.   • Experience: Broker candidates must have been continually licensed and employed on a full-time basis as a New Jersey real estate salesperson for at least three years immediately preceding their application.
  • Education: Broker candidates must complete one hundred fifty (90 + 30 + 30) hours of real estate education, with 90 hours in general real estate principles, and two 30-hour courses on Agency/Ethics and Office Management and related topics from an approved real estate school in New Jersey. The courses are not currently available on-demand, but may be available in real-time as video-conference.
