Real Estate License Exam Strategies

The Real Estate License Exam is a very difficult test. Each state body who creates the exam know that those who pass are certified as professionals. Thus they want to make sure that the future realtors are well versed in the necessary concepts and ideas in order to properly serve their clients.

No matter what type of exam (Real Estate License Exam, 5th Grade Spelling Test, University Final) it is important to always be prepared. In regards to the Real Estate License Exam, one should study with a study guide before even considering to write the test. While your real estate school will prepare you to become a realtor it will not always prep you for the exam. A study guide will enforce the concepts that will be on the exam allowing you to study at your own pace.

While each person has their own special way to get ready to write an exam there are some basic techniques that every one should maintain. We break these techniques into two categories: Before the Test and During the Test. If you try to follow these rules you should be well prepared to successfully write your exam and obtain your real estate license.

Before the Test

  1. Be prepared physically and mentally. Get a good night’s sleep the night before your test, eat what you consider a normal meal the morning of the test, and dress comfortably for the test.
  2. Dress in a manner that will allow you to adapt to different room temperatures. Heating and air conditioning systems may not be under the control of the Test Center staff.
  3. Allow plenty of time to get to your Test Center. No need for a car accident on the way.

During the Test

  1. Answer as many questions as time allows. It is much better to guess than to leave an answer blank. Use the process of elimination in order to make the most educated guess.
  2. Your first response to a question is frequently correct. Think clearly before changing your answer due to any second thoughts.
  3. Do not think about one question for too long. Each question has the same weight in score. In each section, answer questions about which you are confident, and return to answer the more difficult questions if time permits. Remember, however, that you may not return to earlier sections of the test. Going back to earlier sections (or working ahead) will result in your dismissal from the test.
  4. Work quickly but carefully. Check regularly to make sure you are marking your answers in the correct place on the answer document.

Good luck!
