HOW TO OBTAIN AN KANSAS REAL ESTATE LICENSE
In the Kansas , exams, licensing, and continuing education for real estate agents are governed by the Kansas Real Estate Commission.
There are two basic real estate licenses in Kansas, a salesperson's license and a broker's license. Generally, a salesperson's license allows the holder to sell real estate only under the auspices of a licensed broker. (Salesperson's licenses are generally what people refer to when they say they have a real estate license.)
Salesperson

Must be 18 or more years of age.

Must posses a high school diploma or its equivalent.

Complete the 30-hour Principles of Real Estate course approved by the Commission.

Must pass both the general and Kansas state portions of a licensing examination within 12 months of the course completion date.

Must file an application for license within 4 months of the examination pass date (if the two parts of the examination were passed on different dates, the four-month time period begins from the earlier examination date).

Must have the application signed by a supervising or branch broker who certifies that the applicant is honest, trustworthy and of good reputation and who will be responsible for supervising the applicant's real estate activities.

Must file a nonresident form with the license application (if applicable).

Must file a current certification of license from any jurisdictions that have ever issued a real estate license to you with the license application.
Broker

Must be 18 or more years of age.

Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.

Must complete the 24-hour Broker's Pre-License course approved by the Commission.

Must pass both the general and Kansas state portions of a licensing examination within 12 months of the course completion date.

Must have the application signed by a supervising or branch broker who certifies that the applicant is honest, trustworthy and of good reputation and who will be responsible for supervising the applicant's real estate activities.

Must have an application signed by a supervising or branch broker if the applicant is not applying as a supervising broker.

In the application, please include detailed information to demonstrate the applicant meets the experience requirement.

Must file a nonresident form with the license application (if applicable).

Must file a current certification of license from any jurisdictions that have ever issued a real estate license to you with the license application.
Kansas has reciprocal agreements with:
- Arkansas
- Colorado
- Idaho
- Indiana
- Iowa
- Mississippi
- Nebraska
- North Dakota
- Oklahoma
- South Dakota
- Wyoming
Anyone holding licenses from any of these above states may apply for a reciprocal license, and may be able to forego some classroom work and other requirements.
Below are states that have been determined to have equivalent requirements for a salesperson's license and require no further classroom work.
